Small fish in a Huge Pond- Perspective
Small fish in a Huge Pond- Perspective
It's amazing how many things you need to think about when starting a business. I mean on one end, since everything that I do is handmade by me, I have to focus on the design/production/inventory end of my business, and then on the other hand you have the bland, extensive, and at points incomprehensible world of being a business owner. For instance, what kind of company do you wish to incorporate? do you want to be personally liable if someone doesn't like your product? or do you want to use a third party as middle-man for these issues. (should they come about). What are your startup costs, and how do they affect your taxes by the end of the year. Do you have an accountant for your business, licenses, permits, costs per unit, and I mean, when it comes to using elements like gemstones and leather by the yard, your measurements shrink and your cost is calculated on a per-bead basis, lol. Anyway, enough ranting, what I mean is, IT'S a LOT OF WORK! and with a baby at home, who is running around touching everything in sight, and wanting to explore the world around him (now that he can walk/run/jump/climb) it becomes very time consuming and extremely energy draining. Somehow, I had envisioned this transition process to be much smoother, and in my mind I would wake up religiously at the same time, to meditate, work out, have a cup of coffee on our terrace, shower, change and be ready to look after my son with a smile and a perfectly zen mind.... In reality, the time ranges between 6:45 am and 9ish... If Luca decides to over sleep, I say to myself, "what the hell, five more minutes". So, you can imagine the shock, when the day goes by, and my so called "ideal agenda" has gone completely awol.
My new found mantra is changing my perspective. By this I mean, the more I wake up and wonder where my day has gone, the longer it will take to get to all that I need to do in my day. I decided to look at my life from the lens of gratitude and perfect divine order, and I must say it has helped me relax a bit. Anxiety can come quickly when your bills pile up, and you are no longer covered by the "steady paycheck" you once had.
With all this, discipline is key, both personally and professionally. Now I know why all the mom blogs seem to be obsessed with nap times and rigid schedules....If you don't have one, your entire week is a mess. All in all, I have to say I have been coming down (slowly) from my "vacation high" and I have been incorporating the activities I need to get done in order to run this dream I call Flor de Karonka.
I hope your summer has been going well, and your BBQ's are filled with family, friends, vino, and some much needed R&R time.
Thanks for stopping by June....and to you July I say: BRING IT!
