Expect the unexpected
Expect the unexpected
This month a lot shifted in my life. I was not looking for an offer back into finance, although I did have one very specific thing in mind that could change my mind about going back. Anyway, I decided to meet for coffee and see what the opportunity was, and actually face the person I had heard so much about. I must confess I was a little bit nervous, because I have never been good on interviews, and even though my interest was not fully there, I could not help but feel a lot of anxiety about walking into a corporate building in the heart of downtown Miami. In any case, our 30 min conversation extended to about an hour and a half, and I enjoyed how comfortable this person had made me feel, and how flexible as well. We talked philanthropy, fashion, photography, and Colombia, as she had recently visited the country for the first time...Have you ever had something in mind and was taken aback by the moment when those exact same thoughts came out of the person sitting across from you? Well, this is pretty much what went down in this Starbucks, and I was simply shocked. I knew I didn't want to lose the freedom I had such a hard time adjusting to and well, this person organized my thoughts into a schedule that works for me and my family. So, come september, I will be back in the world of finance with one foot in, and the other out, working part time, and still having enough of my current life available to continue this business I love doing so much.
On a lighter note, I watched Kung fu panda 3 last night, yes, I love kids movies, and yes they always give a message that resonates with me in some way. No spoilers here, but in essence, Po was trying to find his Chi, and in order to do so he had to figure out who he was. Now, that is never an easy question to tackle in life. Who am I? I mean, come on, we all had to take philosophy in school, and I am sure you recall long hours of subjective conversation that seemed to go on forever. Well to me, the message was clear: Embracing all aspects of who you have been, and the many hats you may have put on will always remain. Even if we didn't like something we had to do in a particular time during our lives, the experience stays with you, and like a ball of "play doh" it adds on a speck of color that doesn't go away. Every little experience makes you, you. Unique, annoying, lazy, brilliant, and at times average, but you.
So instead of worrying about how to "correctly" classify yourself, based on your degrees or job titles, all you have to do is embrace every aspect of what makes you, you, and roll on. I figured that if doing finance part time, allows me to still have time for my passion, and provide for my family, then why the heck not!
The picture I chose is also directly tied to my title of expecting the unexpected. This bracelet has been by far my best seller. Even though initially it started with the LGBT rainbow I made in honor of my friends and the Orlando attacks, this Hamsa Unity bracelet has proven to be versatile in its ability to do just that, unite. Whether via the Colombian or US flag, or simply a favorite color, the Hamsa element of the bracelet has been very well received and this was definitely unexpected. To all of you who have purchased it, thank you!
Thank you for reading, I hope your July was an enjoyable summer month.
